Ice Dye Workshop
1/8

Slow Craft

$95.00 USD
Saturday, May 30 | 10am-12pm and 1-3pm

Ice Dyeing is inspired by the Japanese resist-dye technique Shibori - folding, twisting, and binding fabric to create layered patterns and organic shapes. In this workshop, we'll combine Shibori techniques with fiber reactive dyes plus melting ice to create watercolor-like designs that develop naturally over time. No two pieces are ever the same.

What you'll transform in this 2 hour hands-on workshop, pre-washed and ready to dye:
🧺 One ruffled canvas tote bag 14.5" x 19" — an oversized everyday tote with soft ruffle detailing
🏡 One cotton tea towel 27" x 27"

What's Included
Shibori + Ice dye technique lesson
All dyes + tools provided
Apron, gloves, mask included
Take-home dye tray system for overnight color development
Printed step-by-step finishing instructions

Take home or pick-up option: Your ice dye pieces continue developing overnight as the ice melts and the dye slowly moves through the fabric, this is what makes ice dyeing so unique. Colors continue to shift and intensify over 12-24 hours.

At the workshop, we'll start the process together and set everything up for that slow reveal. You're welcome to take your dye tray system home with full take home instructions to finish the process and enjoy the reveal at home.

If you prefer not to transport your tray, you may leave your pieces with Slow Craft for finishing. Completed, washed, and dried available for pick up at the Fab Lab any time on/after June 1.

Who is this for?
Perfect for beginners, no experience needed. This workshop is for anyone who loves color, handmade textiles and experimenting with the creative process. Come solo or bring a friend for a creative morning or afternoon.

What to wear
Dye can stain. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting a little colorful, we will be providing aprons to wear over your clothes and gloves to protect your hands. Closed toe shoes are recommended.
